TV Interview for “Digital Art Revolution” Author Scott Ligon.
Monday, May 17, 2010
Today I had the honor of doing a television interview about “Digital Art Revolution” with Dennis James Knowles, Producer of “Applause” for WVIZ/ PBS in Cleveland.
“Applause” is an Emmy award-winning TV show produced in Cleveland by PBS station WVIZ. The show celebrates artists and cultural groups around Cleveland and Northeast Ohio. Each week this on-air arts magazine broadcasts a fresh half-hour of features, performances, on-location reports, and interviews assembled in the studios of WVIZ/PBS ideastream.
The segment will air in a couple weeks in our region, just prior to my lecture at MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) Cleveland on Wed. June 9. The show will also be available on the web. I’ll post an update when I know what time it airs. I’ll post a link to their website as well.

Video artist Kasumi came by and talked about her work on camera as well. She is a fellow Cleveland Institute of Art Professor. Kasumi is one of the many great artists in “Digital Art Revolution”. The artist is recognized as one of the leading innovators of a new art form synthesizing sound, film, and live video manipulation. She has won acclaim for her work in performances and venues with collaborators worldwide from the Lincoln Center with the New York Philharmonic to Carnegie Hall with the American Composers Orchestra. We’ll have a written interview posted on this site soon.
John Spofford was also interviewed for the segment. John is a very talented student at CIA. His digital landscape paintings are featured in “Digital Art Revolution”. He also posed for a compositing exercise in the book.
Thanks to Casey Burry, Director of Public Relations & Media at the Cleveland Institute of Art for organizing this event and my upcoming lecture at the MOCA Cleveland.
Thanks to my former student Katie O’Connor for taking all of the images on this page. Katie did some very innovative work in my digital foundation classes and she’s just completed her freshman (foundation) year at CIA.
